I thought they covered a solid amount in just 45 minutes but man a 90 minute time slot should be the norm for a premiere episode.

I was not feeling Wendy from FOO but I’m glad they let her explain her Tourette’s. Makes you empathize a lot more. I also loved how they peppered in that Aurora is gay without making it a big deal. We’ve come a long way since Spencer Duhm.

Keith made a great decision by jumping ship from Reem and Wendy. Just straight up walked away to flip. Gotta do what you gotta do.

Reem was a pretty obvious first boot option. I think someone had said Katrina Radke floor but potential Rimmer entertainment. She was fun and I’m excited we’ll still have her on Extinction.

Wentworth is not fucking around and I’m excited to see this more “villainous” game unfold

I mean, Richard Hatch

Really good point! It’s been a while since I rewatched Borneo but I feel like there were often “counterconfessionals” if you will from Rudy about Rich being gay

Yeah true. Off topic, I always laugh at "He's fat but he's good"

That was one of my favourite Survivor premieres in recent memory. It checked all of the boxes that it needed to. I got to hear from the returnees about how they want to change their games this season. I got to know some newbies who have already piqued my interest. And that tribal council was fascinating. My favourite part was that the twist was not in any way intrusive and actually provided one of the best moments of the episode, in Reem's look of terror as she walks on the island.

I'm glad to see David and Wentworth working together. The way they annihilated their target was very impressive. Reem really didn't stand a chance, unfortunately. Their strangle hold on this tribe might become obvious too soon though.

I loved Keith and Reem's story. Reem reluctantly stepping into a motherly role in the tribe. Keith wanting a mother figure on the island but knowing that person is a hindrance to his game. Keith practicing his swimming actually warmed my heart.

Wendy is a breath of fresh air on Survivor. Seeing someone so unabashedly themselves on TV and in the game is so cool. The inclusion of someone with Tourette's syndrome seems belated, but is so welcome.

I'm excited to see more from Ron, Gavin, Wardog and Rick.

The main problem with this premiere was that it was too short. I wanted to see more of these people, especially Aubry and the Kama women.

This was a great start to EoE. Can't wait 'til next Wednesday!

absolutely one of my fave premieres in some time, maybe especially thanks to that beautiful cinematography of Reem arriving (/being kicked off the boat without a word in complete darkness at) Extinction Island.

magical, felt like a movie and with a proper cliffhanger ending too *clapping*

yes, I am so sad it wasn't 20-40 minutes longer tho, the episode really deserved it.

level 2

I totally agree it was too short! I was surprised when I checked my TV guide and saw it was only an hour. I would've thought the premiere would be 2 hours.

I found myself getting annoyed with Rick early on when he started singling out the people swimming. But then again it's the first day and they're looking for any reason to vote anyone out. Props to Keith for distancing himself when he saw the writing on the wall

I wonder if part of it was a strategy of Rick’s... They’re talking about keeping the tribe strong and Rick obviously isn’t. So when the opportunity came to put a target on anyone else, he went for it. I think it was self-preservation to avoid being the target.

I felt the same way. There's very likely not a lot of wiggle-room in the first 3 days, but wasn't a fan of Rick based on how he chose to target the Keith/Reem/Wendy trio. Granted it probably could've been overdramatized in the edit, but it pretty much came across as "oh these 3 people are the oddballs of the tribe & seem to be bonding early on? better send them home ASAP"

(Mind you Rick wasn't the only one guilty of this. Wardog annoyed me a decent amount too in the episode displaying that attitude)

level 3

I mean, it makes sense. You have 6 people hanging out together and talking, then you have 3 who choose to isolate themselves. Even if those reasons are genuine, how do you know they aren't out there making a final 3 deal. Also, Reem was annoying people already, and Keith can't swim, which will be a problem in challenges. I think it is totally fair. Especially early on, I feel like an "anyone but me" method is great until you really know who you can trust

You know.. you're right haha. If I was Rick id probably be doing the same. I think I just didn't like how he was going about it because it seemed premature but I can't fault him. I didn't really consider keith's inability to swim being something that could get him targeted but that is also a good point..

level 5

Being a bad swimmer could actually make him less of a target in the lategame, but in the premerge when his tribe depends on him...

level 3

Yep, you look for whatever outlet you can. Doesn't matter if it's something significant.

level 3

I don’t really understand this attitude on the subreddit. Survivor is a game of social politics. If you’re isolating yourself during the critical opening moments of the game, by swimming or weaving palm fronds while the majority of the tribe is socializing, then you’re putting a target on your back. It only takes a moment of recognition for a majority to form during the initial phase of the game.

Loved the way Extinction Island was presented, but still not enthused about the twist. Does Reem end up on the jury if she stays past the merge? This all just seems like a way to keep Joe in the game until Day 37

According to Inside Survivor, anyone who makes it to Extinction Island past the merge will be a jury member. This could be the in for someone voted out to win, as they could be spending a prolonged period of time with the jury.

Absolutely. They are all bonding without any fear or need for backstabbing. They can openly and freely campaign for themselves (smart people will keep alliances and promise people they will vote for them in the end should they lose the 2nd re-entry challenge).

Not necessarily, they could also turn against each other and try to get everyone else to quit. And larger groups at odds with each other in the game could stick together on extinction rather than intermingling. Nothing on the scale of regular blindsides, but also not quite the paradise of Ozzy's redemption island retreat.

This is what I think will happen Scott and Jason style

I could have gone the rest of my life without hearing the words Ozzy’s Pleasure Dome on an episode of Survivor and been perfectly happy about it.

That's going to completely alter the endgame, holy crow. I don't necessarily like it and don't want to see it every season, but I'm absolutely fascinated by what it's going to look like.

I also welcome Joe Anglim to the bottom of the winners ranking.

Ugh, this defeats the purpose of Survivor. How are you supposed to manage the jury when you have no reason to believe that the pre-mergers will be on it?
