/r/Survivor and the reddit Redesign

As you may be aware, Reddit is working on a site redesign. With more beta testers coming in and an eventual sitewide launch, we would like to update everyone on where /r/Survivor stands with the upcoming changes.

For time time being, we recommend continuing to browse /r/Survivor on the regular desktop site. The redesign still has a great many bugs and missing features. Additionally, it does not make sense for us to regularly update weekly links until it has a more widespread implementation.

What is the redesign?

The redesign is a ground-up rebuild of reddit's desktop site. You can read more about the philosophy of the redesign and the changes being made in the redesign team's blogposts here and here.

As with any site redesign, it is being received controversially. However, it is still in the beta stage, meaning it's still a ways off from being finalized.

The redesign is currently being slowly rolled out to select groups of beta testers.

Where does /r/Survivor stand with the redesign?

Currently, we have a mock-up design in place. While there are templates in place for our sticky board and sidebar photos, we do not plan on regularly updating these until more redesign rules are in place and the redesign has much wider access.

We will be happy to accept feedback on our design, including graphics, top menu links, and sidebar arrangement. General redesign feedback can be submitted to the redesign team via /r/redesign.

Our current goal is to eventually fully enable the redesign. However, this will require the appropriate tools being available to us. We will keep the subreddit community informed in regards to any further plans on this.

What'll happen with gold flairs and badges?

We would like to eventually convert our flair system to the redesign. However, we have no timeline in place for this. The current tools available for flairs in the redesign are limited and incomplete. We will have to see much more of what we have to work with before we can implement a plan. Therefore, for the indefinite future, flairs and badges will stay on the old site.

FAQs

We will regularly update this section to include any common questions and concerns we come across regarding the redesign.

The calendar widget is displaying the incorrect time

One cool new feature of the redesign is a calendar sidebar widget, to which we can add upcoming AMAs and Survivor episodes. However, it does not currently display the correct time. This is a bug with the redesign that should eventually be fixed.

The sidebar links are not updated for the most episode

As explained above, we will not be regularly updating these links until the redesign has a wide enough release to justify it.

By the way, there is supposedly an opt-out in the settings for your account!

Yep, if you have access to the redesign, you can toggle it as the default layout in your reddit preferences. But unless you're committed to providing feedback to the redesign team, I wouldn't bother with it at this stage.

I've been using the redesign for a little over a week and I'm pretty happy with the way this sub has been handling it. I understand waiting a bit longer for certain features to be implemented, but I think you guys have done a good job so far. I'm excited to see the direction the subreddit eventually heads in, and I'll make sure to submit any feedback if I think of anything.

Will this affect the mobile site at all?

I believe the eventual goal of the redesign is to more closely align the mobile and desktop sites. This would hopefully include things such as having our flair and badge system work on mobile.

But for the time being, the redesign is only on the desktop site. It is similar in appearence to the most recent iteration of the mobile site/app, but has no crossover.

Wait, redesign? If I opt out this sub should look the same right?

It's in beta testing. If everything looks the same, don't worry about it.

I'm a new on reddit and browsed on the old design a few times. The current episode threads were on the >>>> of the screen. Now it's stuck on epsidosde 4. Is this a bug from the redesign?

It's not "stuck" on episode 4, it just isn't being updated.

The links on the sticky board have to be manually updated by the mods. With two site designs, that's double the work. And on the redesign, it's even more cumbersome to update. So, given the relatively low rate of participation in the redesign, we have not been updating it as we have the "old" site. This may change next season depending on how widespread the use of the redesign is.

Thanks for the explanation.

Redesign Info

LOOK HERE!

If you're reading this, you are using the reddit redesign. As the redesign is incomplete and lacks many tools used by /r/Survivor, we recommend using "Old Reddit."

You can use Old Reddit by using https://old.reddit.unblocksites.space/ OR by opting out completely. You can see instructions for how to opt out here.

If you have any feedback about /r/Survivor's redesign, please message the moderators. However, please keep in mind that many aspects of the redesign are out of our hands for the time being.

You can read more information about /r/Survivor and the redesign here.

User Flair

The user flair system is currently incomplete on the redesign. Therefore, users must request flairs on the old site. The text of the flair will display on the redesign, but gold/silver/winner flairs and winner badges will NOT show up on the redesign for the time being.

You can choose a flair on this page.

Discord

You can access the Reddit Survivor Discord here.

/r/Survivor and the Reddit Survivor Discord have a loose affiliation. While they are connected as partner platforms, they are moderated differently by overall different groups of mods. However, vote manipulation on /r/Survivor, promoted from Discord, will not be tolerated. Same with harassment that crosses channels, either way — this too will be dealt with by warnings and bans.
