There is always confusion about gold flairs and winner picks, especially among people who are newer to the subreddit.
Below is an image and brief description of each, followed by a detailed table.
Gold flairs (as do all flairs) show up next to your name. They are available to select until the night of Episode 2 so you have lots of time to figure out who to root for. Gold flairs are not meant to be winner picks - you can pick for any reason. However, gold flairs of a winner do become special at the end of a season as a perk. After the gold flair deadline, contestant flairs are available in silver. You can change your gold flair as often as you want while they're available for selection but once gold flairs are turned off you're stuck with what you have (or you can dump the gold flair for a silver contestant one or custom grey flair - message the mods for a custom flair).
Winner picks are submitted privately into a survey form the mods put up in the last week of the pre-season. The deadline is the moment before the premiere starts airing, with no exceptions. Those who submit a correct winner flair will end up with a circular badge containing the season's number next to their username. Badges stack so you might be lucky enough to end up with a string of badges! You cannot get a badge any other way other than to submit a pick into the official selection form.
Note: your gold flair and winner pick do not have to be for the same person. You can publicly root for someone (gold flair) while submitting someone else as your private winner pick. By the same token, you can choose to set your gold flair and winner pick to the same contestant. If they win you'll get the season badge and the special winner flair.
| GOLD FLAIRS | WINNER PICKS ---|---|--- Purpose | To support a contestant for any reason (you like them, like their name, think they're cute, think they'll win, anything!). | Officially select who you think will win a season. *** | *** | *** Private/Public | Displayed publicly next to your username on all web browsers, as well as any mobile apps that have flair support. | Picks are private and only seen by mods. If you pick correctly there will be a publicly-visible badge once the season ends. Badges should be visible in all browsers but most likely not in mobile apps. *** | *** | *** Selection period | Typically from the day of the official cast announcement, until the moment Episode 2 starts airing. This gives you pre-season and the first week of the show to select who you want to publicly support. | Winner picks are available pre-season only! Typically selections open a week before the day of the premiere and go until the moment before the premiere starts airing. *** | *** | *** Change-ability | While gold flairs are available in the flair-selection box you can change as frequently as you want. Once they are no longer available you cannot get one. | Once you submit a winner pick it is final for that season and cannot be changed. *** | *** | *** How they're displayed | Gold flairs show up as gold. If/when the contestant is eliminated the gold flairs become "mold" flairs until the end of the season. Once the season ends they come back to gold. As a perk, gold flairs of the winner get converted to a special-looking flair. (However, remember that gold flairs don't have to be winner picks.) | Winner picks are submitted privately so nothing is displayed while the season airs. After the season is over, users with a correct winner pick get a badge with the season number next to their name. *** | *** | *** Multiples? | You can only have one flair at a time (Reddit site-wide-limitation).| Badges are encoded into our stylesheet so you can have multiples. The badges will show up left-to-right in increasing season number. *** | *** | *** How long they last | All flairs (gold or otherwise) last until you choose to remove them entirely or select a new one. | Badges will be around indefinitely unless we change how we do them. *** | *** | *** How to select | Follow the instructions on this page. | The mods will post a survey form for submissions. Nothing except for submissions into the official form counts! Comments you made pre-season, a picture you took of a handwritten note, etc, will not count. Only what is submitted into the official form will be recorded and turned into a badge if you are right. *** | *** | *** What to do you if you don't see it | If you are a on a mobile app, check a desktop browser. If it's not showing up, make sure the "Show my flair on this subreddit" checkbox is checked as it's easy to accidentally uncheck it. It's right where you select a flair from the box. If it's still not showing up, message the moderators. | If you are a on a mobile app, check a desktop browser. If it's still not showing, there could be several things wrong. 1) You put your username incorrectly into the survey form so the badge isn't tied to your username correctly. 2) You actually picked a non-winner in the survey form. 3) You didn't submit a pick into the official form. Message the moderators to see which of these is the case. If it's a matter of fixing CSS we can change it easily. If you forgot or picked someone else, sorry! Better luck next time!
If you're reading this, you are using the reddit redesign. As the redesign is incomplete and lacks many tools used by /r/Survivor, we recommend using "Old Reddit."
The user flair system is currently incomplete on the redesign. Therefore, users must request flairs on the old site. The text of the flair will display on the redesign, but gold/silver/winner flairs and winner badges will NOT show up on the redesign for the time being.
/r/Survivor and the Reddit Survivor Discord have a loose affiliation. While they are connected as partner platforms, they are moderated differently by overall different groups of mods. However, vote manipulation on /r/Survivor, promoted from Discord, will not be tolerated. Same with harassment that crosses channels, either way — this too will be dealt with by warnings and bans.
