A disappointing sequel after how great the first movie was. They went in a completely different direction and it just turned into a huge mess. The film didn’t know what it wanted to be, it’s a weird mix of horror/slasher/comedy/sci-fi. It tried to juggle too many storylines: Ryan being in a loop, the double versions trying to kill themselves, Tree going back to her original timeline and going into other dimensions, Tree’s romance with Carter, Tree and her mom, the babyface killer doctor, the sci-fi shenanigans with the kids and teacher trying to stop them, etc. etc. The timelines and dimensions were also super confusing I honestly couldn’t follow along with everything that was happening. Poor acting and terrible new characters. Cringey jokes and awful ending/post-credits scene. I guess you can say it’s “fun” but man what a bummer...

What happened to the 2 Ryans??

Other than that, really fun, just like the original.

It's a great followup to the first one,I tought I was going to get bored with this one with the die repeat formula on the same settings as the first one,but this one feels like an extended after credits scene and an alternative movie script to the first one that deserves to be called a 1.5 not 2nd part(but happy death day 1.5 would sound absurd).

I can’t believe no one else has brought this up but it’s ridiculous how everyone just instantly goes along with her every day. Some days after dying she just wakes up and starts giving everyone directions and they are all just like ok let’s go. Every time she sees her parents they have these deep heart to hearts like she’s been gone a million years but there is no real setup for anything. If I were her parents I’d be like how much acid did you take this morning? She just tells everyone she’s been dimension traveling and they are all just completely on board. I actually enjoyed it but the plot is absolutely ludicrous.

level 2

I think it’s usually a couple hours that she spends explaining things to them. And when she tells them that she knows all about SISSY and knows all of those insane algorithms, what other explanation is there? They already know that SISSY was created to mess with time, so it makes sense

When I first heard they were doing a sequel, I was like "Did it really need a sequel?". I found the first film to be mediocre, and I wouldn't watch it again, but after giving the sequel a go, I can surprising say that I enjoyed it more than the first one. It was more interesting and had more emotion.

It’s like the writer(s) thought while writing the script “this is going to be like Back to the Future II! I’m even going to write a line referencing it!” then entirely changed the script after the first 20 pages and didn’t remove the reference... the best part of the whole BTTF franchise is when Marty is IN the first movie and seeing himself! Why wouldn’t they go that route?? Doesn’t seem too complicated and would have been way more fun. Especially because they could’ve made Tree the killer. Damn missed opportunity here. Overall a mess of a movie that didn’t know what it wanted to be.

I didn't see the original until I saw the trailer for this one and thought it looked less like a horror movie, and more like a comedy with a horror premise. So I watched the original last week so I could see this at the cheap theater. The first one was also barely a horror. Still a good concept and I liked that they acknowledged this is just Groundhog Day as a teen horror. The second one, was a little more of a mess, but still funny to see where they could take it. Some scenes were a little too painful though, like the french blind girl scene. I went into both of these not expecting much and they ended up being fun at least. Tons of plot-holes and mediocre acting, but overall fun. They seem like great movies to watch with a group of friends that you can talk over and make jokes about.

It was ok. They finally explained why she was in that loop. The lead actress carried the movie well, but I'm not interested in seeing any other sequels/spinoffs from here.

I found it to be borderline sci-fi, definitely not a slasher.

level 1

what did the ending mean? why was the girl shouting?

level 2

She's the test subject for the timeloop

level 3

How could someone miss what that meant?

I have read bad review about this movie. Most people said that this is just a disappointing sequel with some good moments. Jessica Rothe is the main reason why I watch the movie despite all the bad review

level 1

Disappointing sequel with some good moments/elements. Didn't like any of the new characters. Totally abandons the slasher premise for wacky sci-fi lab shenanigans and then devolves into a Disney channel sitcom by the end. So yeah...

Still love Jessica Rothe though.

SISI sounds exactly like "tits" in Russian, so in Russian dub the name of this device became an additional joke. I wasn't fond of it, but 2 girls sitting in my row giggled everytime characters said SISI.

level 1

I hope if there’s a next movie they could expand on the whole doppelgänger thing by having an evil dimension just like with Community. Tree vs Tree would be awesome and I bet there could be a lot of hilarious hijinks

level 2

But then people will say it plagiarize from US which is going to be release soon.

So, I don't really watch horror movies. I only watched this because I used my Sinemia on 2 movies in last 2 months, and wanted to recoup that; and they are still showing Bohemian Rhapsody / A Star is Born / Müslüm (a local film about a singer) even after 6 months, and didn't want to watch Alita for the 3rd time.

I liked this movie. I was thinking horror comedy would feel weird, but they nailed it. I laughed hard where Tree kept killing herself and also where she unleashed her fury. It wasn't a big deal since other 4 people left the salon after half an hour and I was alone :(

I have to repeat that I liked the movie, and will definitely watch the eventual sequel, but Tree returning didn't make sense.

On the first universe; her mom is dead, Lori is dead, she's with that guy.

On the second universe: her mom is alive, Lori is alive, she was going to be that guy, and creepy prof is dead.

level 2

and will definitely watch the eventual sequel,

But... this IS the eventual sequel.

The main thing that solidified her going back was that it wasn't her life. She had no memory of that universe and that took a toll. First glance I agreed staying was the right call, but thinking more I get going back.

level 1

I enjoyed the movie but there's a bunch of issues I feel like the writers forgot about random stuff like having two Ryan's and tre realizing she's living someone's else's life. I thought the whole point of her going back was because she wasnt living her life after seeing she doesn't have memories of this new dimension but then she switches to only going back for Carter which is stupid because Carter fell in love with her in this dimension plus he was being cheated on so she could have told him and got him back

level 2

Yeah, 2 Ryans plot was never addressed again :-( I couldn't believe it. Also just like in the first movie Tree says that she keeps feeling worse everytime she dies, but it's not explained either.
